...a righteousness from God has come that is apart from keeping the law perfectly and completely.

Long ago, the Law and the Prophets told of this righteousness. It is the righteousness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But now we are made acceptable to God by his grace, through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. For God presented him as a sacrifice in payment for our sins, and it is made ours through faith in his blood.

He did this to demonstrate his justice. Before the coming of Christ, God, in his great patience, left sins unpunished. But now, the penalty for sin has been paid, and all those who believe have been put right with God through faith in Jesus.
