When they mocked you and cursed you,
It should have been me.

When your flesh ripped away like ribbons,
It should have been me.

When your head was pierced with thorns,
It should have been me.

When you were crushed beneath the cross,
It should have been me.

When they stretched you out on a tree,
It should have been me.

When nails tore through your hands,
It should have been me.

When your blood poured out like water,
It should have been me.

When at last you died Ð

It should have been me.

I am the one who sinned,
