The First Christmas

The Setting

The number three seems to be associated with Christmas;

"We three kings..."

"I saw three ships come sailing in..."

And so, here are three short plays for Christmas. Each one tells the story of Christmas from a different, first person perspective. Mary's story, the innkeeper's story, and the Magis' story.

Each play is written for kids, to be performed by an adult (with an extraordinary memory!).

Really, I had a video presentation more in mind when I wrote them. I picture the actor in costume in a spotlight on a bare stage. All you see is the actor and one or two simple props (a basin and a jug, a broom, a beggar's cup). The video idea has the advantage of being able to break things up into more manageable chunks, cutting from one camera angle to another - with someone holding a large-print script/prompt off camera for the actor to read from. Just a thought!

Or you can skip the staging and just read them!

And so, without further ado...

It's the roar of the greasepaint, the smell of the crowd...

PLACES EVERYONE!

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!!!
